Pōhaku Pelemaka is a grass root nonprofit 501(c)(3) working along the coastline of Puna, Hawaiʻi. Re-born in 2021 from its founding entity, KAPONO Red Road (2013).
In our own words, pōhaku pelemaka is "raw rock" signifying new land birthed from molten magma: malleable, grounded, and full of potential. Puna's raw rock creating a foundation optimal for growth.

Mission
Our mission is to protect, perpetuate, and enhance: the intrinsic qualities of Puna makai (coast), Native Hawaiian wellbeing, and the transmission of intergenerational knowledge and practices in partnership with ‘ohana (family), county, state, government, public and private sectors.
VISION
Pōhaku Pelemaka's educational, charitable, and scientific purpose is to Aloha ʻĀina (reconnect, study, steward, protect, enhance, maintain, and celebrate) along Puna makai with culturally grounded programs and partnerships.
We strive for a thriving and resilient Puna makai, where the lineal families, community, natural environment, historic resources and wahi pana (storied and legendary places) are preserved and respected in perpetuity for generations to come.
